How to prepare for alterations.
How do you mark a garment for alterations?
What you need to know.
In the above picture, these are concert uniforms I altered for the band. The person should put on the garment and have someone else do the pinning. The pants should touch the top of the shoe. Put a pin in the front to mark the spot and a pin in the back. When pinning, I often find the lengths to be different. As long as one pant leg is pinned, I can use the inseam to match each leg.
For skirts and dresses, be sure to pin the front, back and the sides. The more pins the better. For the best results, a yard stick can be used.
